ArcGIS Enterprise offers several licensing roles for its ArcGIS Server component. These licensing roles provide a range of powerful functions to the ArcGIS platform as deployed in your own infrastructure. Each licensing role has different capabilities and system requirements. Learn more about each role:
Concurrent Use licensing. ArcGIS License Manager software installed on the network manages the distribution of a pool of shared licenses. The number of Concurrent Use licenses in the shared pool determines the number of users who can use an application at a given time. When a user starts ArcGIS Pro, the application sends a request to ArcGIS License. A Concurrent Use license enables multiple users to share access to ArcGIS Desktop, optionally including ArcGIS Pro, from any computer on a network or a virtual machine. ArcGIS License Manager software, installed on a network computer, manages the distribution of a pool of shared licenses. The ArcGIS License Server Administrator utility provides the ability to configure and manage the license manager.
- The extensions information is retrieved from your ArcGIS Server authorization file. If you've authorized an extension but don't see it in the list, contact Esri Customer Service to ensure that your authorization file is valid and includes access to the desired extension.
- Jun 01, 2017 ArcGIS Enterprise (Server) The Server level licensing is used to create and deploy enterprise level services that can be used by multiple users within an organization. For example, a local government might have various departments and users accessing multiple GIS services throughout the organization and need to manage through one or more.
The role of ArcGIS Server that you license will determine the functionality available. See the ArcGIS Enterprise functionality matrix for specific functionality details.

License ArcGIS Server for a role
To enable one of these ArcGIS Server licensing roles, you'll authorize the software with an authorization file for the licensing role.

To ensure enough machine resources will be available to support server operations, review the system requirements for each server licensing role. Multiple server license roles can be applied to the same server, but we recommend you deploy separate servers for each role.
